Another beautiful start!

I've started another beautiful piece of oil painting today, and if i didn't have to wait for the paint to dry i think i would have finished the whole thing because i have great ideas for this one!

I've been away for a lovely week in North Wales and returned with many fantastic photos i just can't wait to paint!  First though i have to finish this one!  I've done a bit more work on it today and it's almost there, just a few more finishing touches needed!

Feather fun!

Back to my acrylic painting today and it is really starting to take shape.  It's nice to have some fun doing something a bit more abstract for a change!

Stage 2 of my oil painting

I am really enjoying my oil painting and was so glad to get back to my canvas this afternoon!  I'm so pleased with the way this one is developing!  I am using this time away from my oil class to put into practice all the techniques i have learnt so far, ready for the new term and new challenges ahead.

Saturday 10 August 2013

Second painting on the go!

The curse of using oils hit me today!  Because i was creating some lovely impasto work with my palette knives last week, the paint is still wet today!  I didn't want to risk messing it up as i am really happy with the way it is progressing so i decided to get my acrylics out and start a new painting!  Now i have 2 on the go at once!  A new first for me!  As i started painting it hit me that i haven't used acrylics in a year, (plus that it was no good starting without water for my brushes!)!  This one is a more abstract piece to complement one of my earlier pieces "peacock train".  It was difficult to get going but here is the start.

Tigerprint Love and Marriage Prize

The best prize ever, arrived from Tigerprint today, in fact i think i squealed as i opened it!  A box of 100 Pantone postcards!!  Totally amazing!

Monday 5 August 2013

Runner Up Prize!

I've done it again!  I'm runner up in the Tigerprint Competition!  This time for my Love and Marriage pattern!  Here is my little star pattern and Tigerprint's lovely comments!

Sunday 4 August 2013

Paintbrushes & Palette Knives

This is the first stage of my new oil painting!  I have decided to use a mix of paintbrushes and palette knifes as there are so many different textures to this one!  I am really liking the profile i am getting with the knives as i love the texture of thick paint on canvas, it really adds dimension and extra interest.

Sunday 28 July 2013

Love and Marriage

I have been busy working over the weekend to get my designs ready for the Tigerprint Competition "Love and Marriage".  Here are the designs i have just submitted!

Sunday 21 July 2013

It's a Symphony of Fireworks!

Let me introduce you to "Symphony"!  Using a mix of scumbling, brush and palette knife work my oil painting is finally complete.

Sunday 14 July 2013

Palette Knife Fun

I decided that the only way to get those fine firework lines in was to ditch the paintbrushes and get the palette knife out, and it is working beautifully!  I've got some nice textures in there now and a lovely mix of colour.  The only thing which is missing now is the bright light which i'll put in when the paint is dry!

Sunday 7 July 2013

A bit more fizz!

My fireworks have come to life now that i've managed to work into them a bit more today.  Getting the foreground in has really helped too.

Saturday 29 June 2013

Fireworks

The foreground and essence of my painting is very slowly developing!  I have got the basis of the fireworks in now.  When the paint is dry i will then add more detail.  The sky needs to break through more, at the moment they are too solid.  But it's no good trying with all that wet white paint on the canvas!

Saturday 22 June 2013

Background Prep

The background for my new painting is now prepared.  I'm looking forward to adding in the most exciting parts next week when the paint is dry!  If you're wondering what i'm painting, it should all become clear very soon!

Saturday 15 June 2013

The Start Of Something New

After not painting for a few weeks now because of the summer term break, i decided that in order to keep sane i needed to get the paints out again!  So i sorted out my studio, got set up and started on a new adventure!
I had lots of scumbling fun today, preparing my background!

Friday 14 June 2013

Polaroid Notes

My runner up prize arrived today from Tigerprint!  I got a box of 20 different notecards and envelopes which all have quirky, arty polaroid photos on them and i also got a lovely magazine with information about their studio.  Thanks, Tigerprint!

Runner Up!

What a good start to the day it was to find out that my lighthouse photograph was chosen as a runner up in the Tigerprint photographic blank card competition!  I got some lovely comments too!  I've even learned that "bokeh" is the technique i have used for achieving the out of focus (glimmers of light) areas!

Photographic Blank Card Designs

This month i have entered the tigerprint competition to submit a photograph than can be used on a blank card.  Therefore the image has to work for any occasion.  As this is such a wide brief i decided to trawl though my many photographs and found the most appealing and then added my own special added touches by using some filters and playing around with effects.  And here they are...............

Summer Solstice

My art course sadly has now finished for the summer.  I will miss it greatly but will try to keep motivated and carry on painting at home!  I finished my latest painting at home today, and named it "Summer Solstice".  My next subject matter hasn't come forward to inspire me yet so until that magical moment please enjoy this one.

"Summer Solstice"  Oil on Canvas.  20" width x 16" length, 0.07" depth

Friday 10 May 2013

Dramatic Sky!

The background of my painting has been prepared for the dark silhouettes to be added next week, and that sky is looking nice and dramatic!  The sun needs to be brighter but i'll do that next week once the paint is dry.

Friday 3 May 2013

New Painting

This is the start of my new painting.  I was drawn to the drama of the sky yet again in this pic but more will be revealed as the weeks progress.  It isn't just about the sky!

Friday 26 April 2013

Poppy Fields

My painting "Poppy Fields" is finished!  This week i put the fiddly finishing touches to it by adding a sparkle of light to the foliage.

Friday 19 April 2013

Almost Finished!

The good news this week is that my oil painting course is continuing!  We had a new member joining us and i was also delighted that an old friend returned.  So i continued with my poppy field painting.  I have brightened the flowers so that they look like they're catching the sunlight more and also added detail in to the foliage in the foreground.  All i need to do is add touches of highlights when the paint is dry next week and then i will be on to my next piece!

Creative Oil Course Term 3

The next term of my oil painting course started this week and we were all dismayed to hear that the people that be want to close us down due to low numbers (must be because people are away on holidays at this time of year).  Thankfully though we have an amazing tutor who stood up for her students and said no matter what we are painting and we will find a couple more students to join for next week!  So the search is on, then hopefully we can keep our little painting group going!  I had a lovely couple of hours working on my artwork.  The poppies are really growing up the painting now!

Wednesday 27 March 2013

Male Patterns

Here are my entries for the Male Pattern Tigerprint competition.  I've tried to enter a few varied styles and techniques whilst keeping quite a neutral colour palette.  "Stripes"and "Aztec" are painted designs and the others have been completely drawn on the computer.

Friday 22 March 2013

Spring is here!

Well it may not seem like it what with the weather being bad and all but believe it or not spring is actually here!  Well it is in my painting anyway.  It's such a lovely image to paint during these terrible bouts of bad weather!  Take a look at this latest stage and cheer yourselves up with a bit of sunshine!

Saturday 16 March 2013

My New Painting First Glance

Time for a first glance at my new painting which i started in this weeks oil class.  You kind of get the idea of the sort of painting it is going to be but it doesn't give much away yet.  I will keep this one a mystery until next week.

Friday 8 March 2013

Reflections

My painting is finished!  My tutor and i had a few minutes reflecting about how we perceive this image and found that there are many different takes on it.  Who are the figures? Where are they going?  What direction are they walking in?  What are the bright lights?  etc....  At the end of our discussion we settled on a very apt title, it is simply named "Reflections".

What's your take on this scene?

Sunday 3 March 2013

A little bit further

I'm a little bit further on with my painting, but it has been difficult as the paint is still wet from Thursday!  I have managed to prepare it enough for this week class though.  I have scumbled over the background on the right hand side so that it now looks hazy, and also used the same technique for the figures as you could see the brush marks before.  Now it all looks nice and smooth.
